UNESCO Coastal Regions & Small Islands (CSI) platform

Description: CSI is a UNESCO endeavour launched in January 1996. Its goal is to assist Member States towards environmentally-sound, socially-equitable and culturally-appropriate development in coastal regions and in small islands. CSI contributes to the advancement of pertinent knowledge, the integrated application of research findings and capacity-building in transdisciplinarity. It serves as a platform for cross-sectoral, cooperative action.

International Coral Reef Initiative

Description: International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) Forum. Fantastic interactive site featuring kiosks and discussion forums. ICRI is an informal association of governments, agencies, funding institutions, NGO's and the private sector working together to arrest the decline in the world's coral reefs. ICRI operates world wide using the regional seas program of UNEP as regional organisation model. More that 80 countries and at leats as many organisations are involved in ICRI. Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities Clearing House

The Clearing House aims to provide the means to mobilize experience and expertise, including facilitation of effective scientific, technical and financial cooperation, as well as capacity-building. The clearing-house will provide a rapid and direct referral system to relevant information and data so as to provide appropriate advice and assistance on the Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities.

The Coastal Guide

The Coastal Guide is a new information service for professionals in coastal conservation, management, planning and research, especially in Europe and the Mediterranean produced by the European Union for Coastal Conservation (EUCC). Mission: Assist professionals in finding and accessing the best available information. The Coastal Guide is sponsored by EUCC's Information Programme and indirectly by the Nationale Postcode Loterij and Stichting DOEN, the Netherlands and the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature management and Fisheries. Integrated Coastal Area Management/IOC/UNESCO
Description: This is a unique international site filled with links to current intergovernmental programs which are attempting to apply marine science to coastal management issues. The program has interesting projects developed with groups such as UNDP and the World Bank. There is a good selection of resource print materials also referenced at this site for coastal zone managers. Established in 1978 the Priority Actions Programme/Regional Activity Centre (PAP/RAC) is a key component of the Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP), itself part of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
