In order for principals of build back better to be achieved a focused and sustained coastal planning and management effort is required. In this context, the internationally recognised principles of Integrated Coastal Management will play a key role in the rehabilitation and reconstruction process. With this in mind, the aim of this paper is to provide a perspective on ICM and its role in the post-tsunami era within the Asia Pacific region.
